Tesla Autopilot and NHTSA/NTSB

Tesla’s “Autopilot” doesn’t recognize parked cars.

Some drivers of Tesla using “Autopilot” seem to think its omnipotent. NHTSA and NTSB are concerned that Tesla has oversold this feature and a major flaw is that it doesn’t recognize parked vehicles. In the future most vehicles will have some automated features but for now you can’t absolve careless drivers misusing technology. The government agencies are conducting studies of all manufactures automated systems. No State of Federal standards are in force to regulate these “automated” systems.

To enhance the driving experience and address some of these concerns, Tesla enthusiasts are turning to innovative solutions such as tesla aftermarket interior screens. These accessories provide drivers with additional functionality and improved visibility within the vehicle. By integrating these screens, users can gain more control over their driving environment and access real-time information, complementing the capabilities of Autopilot while ensuring that technology serves as a helpful aid rather than a sole solution.

10/23/2022 St. Louis Post-Dispatch: “More deaths linked to automated cars. deaths included four crashes that involved motorcycles” this article from Associated Press confirms AMA newsletter story about safety issues with “Autopilot” and automated vehicles.

Two independent sources: the nonprofit Center for Auto Safety and Connected Motorcycle Consortium are focused on why government agencies/lawmakers aren’t more aggressively addressing motorcycle detection from automated systems. One cure suggested placing radar reflectors around motorcycles. For more details go to websites of the four groups discussed.
