Just before daybreak I heard the sounds of “there shall be no ride today.” It was the rain sending a discouraging message. By the time the alarm went off it had stopped raining. I checked for an email that the ride had been cancelled, but no such email. So, on with the cool weather riding gear and off we went. To my delight the roads were already dry.
Arriving at the QT in Eureka I found a few riders already there. A few additional riders trickled in after us. All in all, there were eight bikes, nine hardy riders and passenger and one not-so-hardy passenger. Some lively conversations were had while we waited for the signal to gear up and head out as scheduled at 9:30.
Our departure first led to some nice county roads around Eureka and beyond. After a tour of the Eureka area we hit some of the alphabet soup roads that skirted Union and on to Krakow for a brief stop. Headed out again we were treated to more of a colors tour. The trees were at or just a bit past their peak colors. It’s too bad that we were not treated with sunshine to make the colors more dazzling. Still, the woods had a nice color palette.
At noon we arrived at the Bistro at the Mill in Gerald. Lunch was nice and was coupled with more of the lively conversation from earlier in the day. It was nice to gather at a table big enough for everyone, everyone except that not-so-hardy pillion. The ride from Eureka to the Bistro was well planned, ran at a nice pace and was of moderate length, just right for these cooler days. Thanks for your expertise, Dan.
